Kansas City Royals slip to Toronto Blue Jays 3-6 at Rogers Centre – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays 3-6 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, July 3 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Credit must be given to the bullpen that restricted the red hot Royals to only three runs. Starting pitcher Brett Cecil showed just what he is capable of as he went on to register his second win of the season. Pitching with great control and precision, he
helped the Blue Jays level the series 1-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Cecil gave up three runs and five hits in just over six innings while striking-out three and walking one. His counterpart from the Royals, Vin Mazzaro took his third loss of the season and his poor outing on Tuesday could cost him a place on the Royals’
big league roster.
"(The inning) just kind of built up on him, then culminated with the home run from Adam Lind," Yost said.
The right hander gave up six runs and season high 13 hits, allowing the Blue Jays to recover from a 3-0 deficit. The last time he allowed more than ten hits was in May 2011, when he conceded 14 runs in just over two innings.
"He wasn't slated to throw through the All-Star break so we'll get another arm in here," manager Ned Yost said. The Royals will announce a corresponding roster move Wednesday.
"We scored early but we couldn't put it together in the second half of the ball game," outfielder Jason Bourgeois said.
Centre-fielder Jason Bourgeois tripled to deep-centre in the third inning to break the deadlock and give the Royals a 2-0 lead. Alex Gordon also joined the party with a sacrifice hit to centre, extending Kansas City’s lead to 3-0.
"They put a six spot up and that kind of takes the wind out of you," Kansas City's Billy Butler said.
However, apart from Gordon and Bourgeois none of the Royals’ hitters could come to the party and Toronto held on to their lead comfortably to secure a much needed victory.
