Kansas City Royals’ starter Danny Duffy to undergo reconstructive-elbow operation – MLB News
The Kansas City Royals’ management has confirmed that their starter Danny Duffy needs Tommy John surgery in the coming days in order to restore his playing chances in the ongoing Major League Baseball season.
Duffy is not the only Royals’ player who is scheduled to undergo this extreme elbow reconstructive procedure, but right hand reliever Blake Wood is also enlisted to have this operation in the coming days.
The Royals, with several players on the disabled list, are in the danger zone. However, the team manager Ned Yost is showing optimism on his players’ potential arrival and stating to the media in detail about all the aspects of these recent injuries.
Royals’ manager Ned Yost said, “Once a player gets to the big leagues and then has Tommy John, his percentages of making it back are a lot higher than a minor-league player having to go through Tommy John. They did the hard part; they got to the big-league level before they had to have these surgeries. So we look for both of these guys to come back every bit as strong as they were.”
This fresh Major League season is certainly proving a difficult for one for the Royals who had a fantastic Spring Training this year. Their All-Star closing pitcher Joakim Soria has also recently underwent the procedure and is now resting before making a potential arrival on the field.
Regarding Duffy, who was playing nicely in this season, carrying a healthy 3.90 ERA along with 2-2 win loss record, 28 strike-outs and 1.59 WHIP.
Duffy’s overall career ERA of 5.28, 6-10 win loss, 115 strike-outs and 1.61 WHIP also makes him a talented young player who possesses the abilities to compete well for a longer period of time.
His potential arrival after surgery is very important for the Royals as his team needs him badly. Though the season is still going at a slow pace, but as soon it will reach the All-Star break, it will drastically become more aggressive where the Royals will certainly need Danny Duffy’s talents. It will be interesting to see how the Royals manage to adapt their rotation as Duffy will require a lengthy amount of time to recover from Tommy John surgery.
