Kansas City Royals working hard to boost their starting rotation – MLB Update

Kansas City Royals had a forgettable last season as they ended up third on the American League Central Division standings table with a poor 72-90 record. However, Ned Yost and his men are looking to turn the tables in the next season. In an effort of rebuild
the pitching rotation, the Royals signed Jeremy Guthrie to a three year $25 million contract on Tuesday.
Two and a half months with the Royals seems to have changed the course of Guthrie’s career. He was acquired from the Colorado Rockies where he went 3-9 with a poor 6.35 ERA. Showing great composure and mental toughness, the starter turned things around brilliantly
at Kauffman Stadium, finishing the season with a 5-3 record and a 3.16 ERA in 14 starts.
The 33-year-old up his game play considerably with each passing game, going 4-0 with an incredible 2.17 ERA in his final 11 appearances. According to a Major League Baseball source, both parties showed interest in signing a new contract as soon as the regular
season ended.
"The way I pitched in Kansas City was much more indicative of how I've pitched over the course of my career," said Guthrie in an interview.
Guthrie sees Kansas City as the perfect place to revive his career. Royals, on the other hand, will be excepting him to continue the good work in the next season to have a better chance of reaching the playoffs.
"We're going to continue to look to upgrade," Moore said. "We feel we've made a lot of contacts with other clubs and laid some groundwork for potentially some future deals. You never know if they'll come to fruition. We still feel we have plenty in the farm
system to make a deal that impacts us not only on the pitching staff but also in the starting lineup."
Royals are working hard to bolster a starting rotation that finished 11th in the American League. They made their biggest move a couple of weeks ago when they acquired right hander Ervin Santana from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade involving
Minor League pitcher. Santana will be paid $13 million in the next season.
