Kanstantsin Sivtsov of HTC-Highroad joined team Sky for 2012
Kanstantsin Sivtsov, the Belarusian player has been signed by Team Sky for 2012. Sivtsov was with team HTC-Highroad since 2008. He had to join a different team as team Highroad is finishing its associations with professional cycling by the end of 2011.
The 29 year old has an excellent career – he has won many races both individually and with team work. Highroad considers him an All-Rounder and declared him as one of the best domestique in the sport.
Sivtsov finished the Giro d’ Italia 2011 at 10th position and also won the Belarus National Time Trial Championships this year. His performance has earned him 58 points during the year, along with securing the 75th position at the UCI
World Tour Individual rankings of September 2011.
Dave Brailsford, principal of Team Sky, believes that Kanstantsin is a brilliant rider and will be a great asset for the team. He further mentioned that the cyclist had already proven himself by finishing amongst the top 10 during the Giro d’ Italia 2011.
He said, “His consistency throughout that race was impressive and he showed why he is so highly regarded within the peloton.”
Most of the cyclists in the American team HTC-Highroad have already found their new teams. Kanstantsin was amongst the few who were left without a team.
Sivtsov is looking forward to riding with his old team mates in the new team, including Edvald Boasson Hagen, Michael Rogers, Morris Possoni, Thomas Lofkvist and Michael Barry.
He stated, “It was great to finish in the top 10 of the Giro this year, and even though my legs weren’t all that good, I was also able to finish eighth at the Critérium du Dauphiné a few weeks later. Hopefully I will be able to ride even better next year
if I have more team-mates there to support me in these types of races.”
Sivtsov has shown interest in riding at the Grand Tours for the coming seasons and it will be interesting to see if he manages to secure some wins for his new team Sky in 2012.
