Kaori Imabeppu crushes Tai Tzu Ying in Women’s Singles semi-final of the Vietnam Open Grand Prix
Japan’s spirited shuttler, Kaori Imabeppu displayed a phenomenal performance by playing top standard badminton and crushed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the Women’s Singles semi-final showdown at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Saturday,
August 27.
The un-seeded Japanese shuttler stunned the third seed Tzu Ying in remarkable fashion by playing to her maximum skills and emerged as the winner in a straight-set battle by taking 40 minutes in the court. World Number 19, Tzu Ying completely failed to stop
the aggressive progress of her opponent throughout the match and lost it without winning a single game.
The first game of this semi-final battle was quite entertaining as both players displayed attacking badminton in the opening points of the match. The score was quite close until the end of the first part of the opening set, when the Japanese was leading
with a narrow margin of 11-9.
After the interval, Imabeppu started to show her elite skills by hitting the bird with a wonderful touch of accuracy and perfection. She spared no chance for the higher ranked, Tzu Ying and won the first game of the match in 18 minutes with the score of
21-15.
Tzu Ying delivered a better performance in the second set when she controlled the pace of the game in the starting points and was leading with a reasonable margin. However, Imabeppu got the flow and started to dominate the rallies by moving fast in all areas
of the court. The Japanese was the leader of the second set as she reached at 11-9 until the interval.
After the one-minute break, Imabeppu played terrific badminton with a great touch of powerful smashes coupled with beautiful and controlled net strokes. She made her rival work hard for every point and emerged as the winner in the end with the score of 21-18,
in 22 minutes. This Women’s Singles semi-final contest went in favour of the Japanese with the score of 21-15 and 21-18, in 40 minutes.
