India’s legendary all-rounder, Kapil Dev, has shown his reservations over the excess of cricket, as he believes that people are losing their interest in the game because of it.
According to the 52-year-old, the number of spectators was not satisfactory during the recently concluded 5-match ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, which is not good for the scope of the game.
"You cannot have so much of cricket that people stop coming even for the ODIs. It was sad thing to see matches against England, we didn't even see 20,000 people turning up. That's what you get when you have too much of cricket,"
he expressed while talking to the media.
Meanwhile, the former captain urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to control the quantity of cricket matches.
India’s former star player, who had always been 100% with his all-round performance for the country, cited that If BCCI will not understand the importance of the quality cricket, players would lose their passion to play.
The veteran of 131 Tests, and 225 One Day Internationals also claimed that People will stop following Twenty20 version of the game after 10 years, as it’s a new format; therefore, it has been
successfully grabbing the viewers’ attention.
In the meanwhile, the Chandigarh-born former pacer stated that Test cricket is the origin of the game.
The legendary cricketer, who guided his country to win the World Cup in 1983, believes that the longer version of the game is real cricket, whereas, Twenty20 has been an entertainment package.
"Twenty20 is a new format and whenever there is a new thing; people show keen interest in it. But once it becomes a routine, it fades out. People are now getting the thrill out of T20 cricket. But real cricket is still Test cricket.
T20 is good but give it 10 years and you would know," Kapil added.
However, India’s former skipper, who captained his national side in 34 Test matches and 74 ODIs, stated that aged people still love to watch five-day cricket; however, the young generation seems more interested in Twenty20.
