Former Indian captain and legendary all-rounder, Kapil Dev has opined that Sunil Gavaskar is the best captain he has played under and said that the great opening batsman had the ability to motivate the team.
Gavaskar has recently been inducted in the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Hall of Fame and he received the illustrious cap from none other than Kapil himself.
Kapil and Gavaskar played a leading role in India’s success in the 1983 World Cup and much of that era for Indian cricket. Some cricket analysts believe that these two cricketers changed the face of Indian cricket and turned a mediocre team into a world-class
one.
The all-rounder said that when Gavaskar took over as captain of the national team, the Men in Blue were not a force to reckon with in international cricket but Gavaskar took the best out of the players he had at his disposal. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 has the services of a
number of great players today but that was not the case two decades ago and this is the reason why Kapil rates Gavaskar as a brilliant captain.
Former all-rounder said, “He was the best captain I played under. The team was struggling in those days. We did not have those great players that we have today. But under the circumstances, Sunil was a big influence on the side. He gave us motivation and
taught us how to fight.”

On the other side of the coin, Gavaskar also praised Kapil and said that both of them have always shared a great bond. The opening batsman of his time expressed that it was a great honour to have received the cap from the greatest cricketer produced by India.
“Kapil is somebody who I consider as the greatest Indian cricketer and to receive this cap from him is a real big plus, a real big honour. Kapil and I have had some wonderful times playing for the Indian team,” expressed Gavaskar.
