Kapil Dev returns to BCCI after resigning from the ICL - Cricket News Update
Former Indian great, Kapil Dev, has finally made the long-awaited move and announced his disassociation with the unofficial Indian Cricket League (ICL) after meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials on Wednesday.
The now defunct T20 League, which was launched in 2007, was a major reason for the long-standing cold war between the BCCI and Kapil after the latter decided to join it despite BCCI not recognizing it.
A press release from the BCCI stated that the former Indian captain had sent a letter to the governing body, informing them of resigning from ICL, while accepting the amnesty from the Indian Board. The letter further stated the all-rounder expressed his
long-term support for the BCCI and called the governing body his “parent”.
"Mr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 has informed the Board that he has resigned from the Essel Sports Private Limited/ICL," the BCCI said. "He has also stated in the letter that he has always supported the BCCI, and will continue to do so in the future.”
ICL was launched soon after India's disastrous World Cup campaign in the Caribbean, and was first of its kind in Asia, widely promoted by the Zee group, which invited players from all around the cricketing world to be a part of it.
BCCI immediately declared it unofficial and banned all national players who took part in the league and sacked the Indian great as head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) while also cutting of his pension.
Kapil Dev is the finest all-rounder that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 ever produced, who also led his side to their first World Cup triumph in 1983. At one time, he remained as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, taking 434 wickets in 131 Test matches and was later inducted
into the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket Hall of Fame.
"The BCCI acknowledges Mr. Kapil Dev's immense contribution to Indian cricket, and looks forward to a fruitful association with him in the years to come," the statement read.
It is widely believed that the move from the Indian great was prompted after he was excluded from the one-time benefit scheme for the former players, announced by the BCCI in May, which entitled the former great from Chandigarh to receive a whopping $270,000.
"The BCCI is like a parent and we are like its children. I have contributed to the welfare of cricket and cricketers during my earlier association [with the BCCI] and aim to do so even now," Kapil told reporters after the meeting.
