Karachi City Cricket Association secretary set to sacrifice his post for players
Karachi City Cricket Association secretary, Ejaz Farooqi, is committed to fight for the rights of the club players who, he thinks, are always neglected by the national selectors.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has served him a show cause notice for violating board’s code of conduct by pleading the case of the players’ rights.
Farooqi is much annoyed over the composition of the Pakistani side for the two Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 since the selectors have not picked any of the Karachi players.
He believes that the club players have abundant talent and have proved themselves both at the domestic and international level.
Talking to the media, Farooqi said that it was quite illogical that the players of other clubs had been given several chances while the Karachi cricketers were always sidelined.
The daring Farooqi has come under fire because he raised his voice for the rights of his players. The PCB officials consider it a conspiracy against the board and the team, accusing him for allegedly involving in politics.
However, Farooqi has denied any possibility of politics. He believes that his demand for the rights of his players is fair.
On a question regarding the code of conduct, Farooqi said that he was aware of the code but it was his moral responsibility to safeguard the interests of the players. He said that he was even ready to quit but would not give up his players.
Farooqi also said that he would arrange a media conference here at KCCA on May 14 to elaborate his point of view.
It is not the first controversy of this nature. The history of Pakistan cricket is packed with such rifts, thanks to the illogical and unjust selection practices.
Recently, the chief selector of the PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, threatened to quit on the issue of team selection for West Indies series.
Moreover, there is a divide between Karachi and Lahore players. As the PCB is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 based, it often favours its regional players.
