Kara’s Orientation is this time focused on taking away the Sky Classic
Thundering through the wire, Kara’s Orientation won the Sky Classic Stakes on 21 August. He was tagged with jockey Emile Ramsammy and got their day made with $252,675. The race was at the damp Woodbine course.
Kara Orientation was virtually unparalleled as he took the lead and became uncatchable in the lane, winning by 2 ¼ lengths ahead Smart Bid under the firm handling of Emile Ramsammy.
This victory came in hand just a month after a three-length win over 1 1/8 miles on the E.P Taylor Turf Course.
The winning jockey admitted that Kara’s Orientation was a little too aggressive and strong initially, giving Ramsammy hard time but eventually it got settled leading towards victory.
The brown colt was leading by an impressive 17 ½ lengths which was an almost impossibility for any other to beat but still Smart Bid and Hailstone made an effort to draw close which naturally ended in vain. This dwindled the lead to eight lengths at the
quarter pole.
Time does not wait for anyone otherwise Smart Bid which was ridden by Edgar Prado successfully got within four lengths at mid stretch but could not make it for finishing all out.
Smart Bid held onto the second position, closely followed by Hailstone being ridden by Jesse Campbell. Grassy was third in the lead while Musketier came trailing behind.
“I was very concerned early on,” said trainer Steven Chircop. “I wanted him in front by about three or four lengths, in a perfect world. To see him open up like that, you’re kind of wondering. ‘When is he going to stop?’ But the horse has been doing amazing.”
On 23 July, Kara Orientation entered the race off a three-length win over a first-level allowance field at nine furlongs on the Woodbine. He also stood second in both the Toronto Cup at Woodbine and Northlands Park’s Canadian Derby in 2010. Out of five he
won three in 2011.
He has been trained by Steven Chircop whose first stakes win goes back to The Sky Classic. Kara’s experience with the racing tracks is diverse; he can maintain the speed be it on turf or synthetic surfaces.
His career has witnessed gradual improvement with each race, success or failure. His record includes 21 starts out of which he has won 6, making him end up with $383,086.
It was a pretty smooth match, the things failed to turn around as expected but even then no one complained as the results for all the horses and their connections too did not prove to be too distressing or disappointing.
