  4. As others have mentioned already, it depends on the style and organisation/association.  My wado-ryu style belts are:

9th kyu beginner = white belt

    8th kyu = white with 1 stripe

    7th kyu = white with 2 stripes

    6th kyu = green belt

5th kyu = green belt with 2 stripes

4th kyu = green belt with 3 stripes

    3rd kyu = brown belt

2nd kyu = brown belt with 2 stripes

1st kyu = brown belt with 3 stripes

    1st dan = black belt

2nd dan = black belt with 2 stripes

3rd dan = black belt with 3 stripes ... and so on.

  5. in wado ryu, it's

    white

    yellow

    orange

    green

    blue

    purple

    brown (3rd kyu)

    brown (2nd kyu)

    brown (1st kyu)

    black (1st dan upward).

  6. i think that it depends on the school that you are with.....i know for a fact that there are different belt structures depending on the school, federation, etc.

  7. here u go

  8. Every style and organization has a different belt rank system. There are so many that it is not possible to say what is correct for your style or dojo.

Some styles have only a very few color belts. Some have many different colors. Some have stripes for every color while others do not. It is not uncommon for a school to change their belt system.

  9. red (9th  kyu)

    orange

    yellow

    green

    purple

    purple + white

    brown

    brown + white

    brown + 2 white (1st kyu)

    then

    black (shodan) (nidan) ....

however the kyu grades can alter depending on club , type and organisation of karate i know in some types that there is a blue belt etc

  10. it depends on which type of karate you take american karate is what i take and the belts are....

    white

    yellow

    orange

    green

    purple

    blue

    red

    advance red

    brown

    advance brown

    black

    2nd degree black

    3rd

    4th

    and so on

  11. Depends on the style or school I imagine. In Shito-Ryu, which is what I study, the belts go like this:

White, white w/yellow stripe, purple, blue, green, brown, and black.

  12. This varies from style to style.

Goju is white, green, purple, brown, black

kenpo is white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, brown, black

  13. Sorry for copying & pasting this, but it's to long to type out!

  14. For most kempo / kenpo schools

white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, brown, black

Sometimes stripes are used like extra belts.  For instance, some schools will use a brown belt with a black stripe as a candidate black belt, or use a blue belt with a green stripe as sort of a half way point between blue and green.  The idea is to provide recognition for the students skills and give them short term goals to work toward.

    TKD:

White, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, red, brown, sometimes red/black and then black.

I think Tang Soo Do uses a blue belt in place of a brown belt.  That is confusing in tournaments, IMHO.
