I'm having a lack of creativity when it comes to counterattacking.

Someone kicks and then punches. Can you give me a list of possible counterattacks?

  1. scoop the leg. then punch to the groin. the attacker wont get a chance to punch

  2. im not going to give you a list of counter attacks cos if u mess them up in real life you cant say hang on let me do that again.

i had a simular problem a few years ago, there isnt anything anyone can really say to you about it, if you just keep practicing, you will develop a fight mode u can switch on and off.

when u are waiting for the opponent to attack just try to relax and empty your mind and let what happens happen and counter with what ever u first think of, watch others and the more u practice the more original u will become

  3. x,x, down,o,o forward

    hold L1, x,o, forward

or here is a good one

    x, down, x, back, x forward, x, up

    yeah do that one!

  4. 1 dont get in a fight in the first place and you won't need any counterattacks.

2 be more specific...what kind of kick? what kind of punch?

the very first thing i learned about defending kicks is to NEVER, EVER, EVER do a low block. block with your legs if the kick is low, if it's high, evade and block with your arms if you must. but ideally...to kick, your opponent has to lift his leg...you should see this and immediately attack, intercepting his movement and there will be no follow up punch. harder than it sounds though.

im a firm believer in the old saying...if you give someone a fish, he can eat for a day, but if you teach him how to fish, he will never be hungry again. so rather than spoon feeding you techniques, i'll just give you a few tips. because everyone is so worried about the technique, memorizing how to defend against this combination, and that combination. ...you need to transcend the techniques and understand the underlying principles and concepts your art is based on.

watch the elbows/shoulders, and knees...they move much slower than a fist or foot. if you see the knee raise...move. if you see a shoulder drop..move. eventually you can move...and attack at the same time. infact aikido founder morihei ueshiba (sp?) was very very nearsighted, and couldn't see very well. how was he able to negate attacks so well?...movement. the very instant his opponent moved...so did he. its harder to hit a moving target than a stationary one. also an important concept found in aikido, and also very prominent in eskrima, arnis and kali (filipines) is the angle of attack...that is what is important. an attack straight down on top of your head..is an attack straight down on top of your head, it doesnt matter much if its a knife, a stick, a beer bottle, a fist...whatever. it's the angle that will tell you how to move.

just a few ideas, work on them and see what answers you come up with, and share them with us.

    hope that helped

  5. You can block the kick or dodge it. After that get out of the way to one of the sides and block his punch with one hand. With the other hand punch in the rib cage and follow it by a round kick to the other side of the rib cage. After that bring the leg back and do A. a leg sweep or B. round kick to the back of the leg so he loses some balance.

    A. If you go for a leg sweep follow by a take down such as a punch to the face for finishing move.

    B. If you go for a round kick to the back of the leg follow it by a reverse hook kick to the body or head depending on how far of an impact the kick to the leg had on his balance/posture.

    Hope that helps.

  6. go on to youtube and type in Seiji Nishimura. You'll get pretty creative counters and sweeps.

  7. dodge kick, block punch, counter with a sweep or take down.

grab kick, sweep other leg, lock up on ground.

    side step, back fist.

the simplest is generally the best ;)
