  1. The above posters have given you some good points. The key to good martial arts is not stregth but speed and technique (and timing and a million other important principles).

That being said, your body strength and conditioning is very important to your health and body maintenance. You need good core strength etc to do martial arts. So, do not throw out the weight training but train so that it helps your karate.

  3. Go easy on weight lifting. Speed and flexibility is much more important in martial arts than being too stiff and slow because of those excess muscles.

  4. some weight lifting is fine, but in every form of martial arts it's all about flexability and strong inner core.

If I were you I would use less weight (unlike in weight lifting) and go for more reps and then do alot more calistetics,sit-up pull-ups,push-ups,and such.just remember in martial arts, it's not about how big you are but how quick you are with the power

  5. do body weight exercises

pushups, situps, core, dips, pull ups, etc

    google search cross fit training

  6. i think both are really going to come in handy... your strength is going to help you out alot... itll make up for everything you dont know.. and remember to always stretch before and after a workout.. that is really gonna improve your speed, flexibility, and strength

  7. Yes.  Karate will/should  be enough to keep you fit.  Whatever you put into it you will get out of it.  Extra leg and core exercises are always a plus, just do what you want and have fun!

( honestly, I don't have enough in me to go to the gym as well, I doubt I'd do it much at home for that matter.)

  8. well if you dont like goin to the gym then yes just do karate and lift wieghtsd at your own home whatever you prefer.

  9. Maybe.
