I want to start karate classes but I'm 15 and people have told me that you need to start a young age if you want to be any good. Is this true? Will I be put in a class with little kids? And is the teacher really called a sensei?

  1. Lol, no. Don't listen to them... Bruce Lee started training at 14 and he's one of the most popular around... Kimbo, with the exception that he hasn't had a good challenge yet, is already in Elite Xc in his late 30s or early 40s i believe...

It is never to late to start, honestly it depends on how much you put into it... don't assume cuz someone starts at 4 or 5 that they will be a guaranteed legend, it's all the hard work you put into it. 15 is perfect, don't let your friends bring you down.

And for karate, yes the teacher is called sensei. If it was Kung Fu it would be sifu.

One day you and me will sparr and you'll kick my *** :]

  2. no maybe if you wanted to be world champ there might be some truth to that statement. no you wont be put in a class with little kids. if they dont have a class for your age group then youll be in the adult class. what the teacher is called depends on the style you chose. sensei is karate and sifu is kungfu

  3. 15 is a good age to start.  Teaching kids is a money thing, not a practical thing.  Traditionally martial arts were never taught to children.

  4. You can start at any age. Lol yes the teacher really is called a sensei.

  5. Hi, I am 15. I started when I was eight, to be honnest I never learned really anything till I was about 10 just because of my short attention span and uncordination. Please go for it. We have adults who join and they have got a hang of it. Like everything it takes work but it is fun and worthwile. And yes a teacher is called a sensei.

  6. You can start karate at any age. If you are lucky by the time you are 20 you would be a black belt (still young). I'm a black-belt in karate shotokan and in my opinion, in terms of learning the true essence of martial arts, I would recommend most people to start karate until they are teenager's or adults, because nor karate nor ANY OTHER MARTIAL ART, were created with the propose of teaching kids or baby's, but adults only. So, don't worry, you are at the perfect age to start.

  7. in order no you can start at any age probably not you would be with ppl of around your age and in japanese styles sometimes sensei means teacher in japanese
