  1. The Shorin Ryu school that I joined is pretty hardcore.

  2. Prince and mito sensei have given good answers. The fact is if all you are wanting is a black belt, you can find a good Mcdojo and in one to two years receive a belt that means absolutly nothing. I would suggest if you go this route just go study you tube video's, learn to imitate some moves, and buy a black belt through century or online. In the end it will basicly be the same thing, you will just have saved a lot of time and money.

If you want something that you can train and learn from for the rest of your life, something you can be proud of yourself for withstanding all of the hard physical and mental training, even when you don't think you are going to, then find a good traditional school that trains realisticly and give it all you've got.

I myself am partial to the Okinawin styles as opposed to the Japanese styles, which tend to be more sport oriented, but this is just what I am familiar with. Any Okinawin or Japanese style trained and taught correctly, will teach you well.

  3. Learn traditional martial arts the CORRECT way, take the time to become skilled, and EARN my respect and skill.

Oh, and for the record as far as 'easy and fast' - a roundhouse/front push/snap kick and a hook/straight/lead punch are taught in the basic beginning of every martial art. If you can't make those basic moves effective, then it won't matter what martial art you use - you'll never be able to make ANY of them effective.

  4. Hi there

If somethings worth doing then its worth doing right! Learning anything new is always difficult at first. If it wasn't then there would be no point in learning it? Its also true that you learn the most when you're having fun. People find all sorts of things interesting and fun to learn especially when challenged. As a rule its always best to be the crappiest student in class. That way you are surrounded by knowledgeable people and you will always be learning.

A good instuctor will shine and make all these aspects come out as part of their teaching. Find the right teacher and you will have the balance you desire.

    Best wishes

  5. A majority of karate that are Japanese / Okinawan based tends to hardcore training.  Again, not withstanding the fact that there may be some few "traditional" dojo that are either watered down in their training or just plain lax.

Fun is hardly what people want when training in martial arts.  Its about sweating, grunting and more sweat.   Then again for some , this may be a way for them to have fun.

    Hoped this helps !

  6. Is it too much to ask for something easy AND effective?

By easy, I mean you can learn it quick, not that it takes no effort.

Take Wu-Shu or XMA.  Both acrobatic systems, both hard as h**l to learn and perfect.  But effective?  Hardly.  Unless someone runs into our knees while you're doing a backflip you're pretty much screwed in a fight using those styles.

Now take jujitsu.  If you train consistently, you can probably defend yourself with it in six months to a year. Doesn't take a ton of athleticism.  So its easier, and far more powerful.

So I'll take answer C.  Thank you

  7. Are you being sarcastic here?!

  8. karate is easy .it seems to be very hard when u first start learning and thoughts come that i will do or not but it becomes easy as u practise.

  9. We all learn to walk before we run, we add & subtract before we multiply & divide, etc.

Everything in life is a learning prosess and all of us learn  differently, as no two will teach exactly the same.

  10. Authentic Karate = Hardcore, Effective.

McDojo = Easy, Fun, EXPENSIVE($$$$$), Useless
