I need a snarky reply to give to people when they say "you need to stop doing Karate because you're pregnant."

A) I've been in Karate all my life.

B) It's ok with my doctor.

C) I only ask that my sparring partners don't hit me in the abdomen, in return, I don't hit them in theirs.

  1. Well if your doctor say's your ok and you'll stop after 7 months i'd say give it a go.

  2. If I was in your position, I would probably do exactly the same thing - practising karate whilst pregnant, regardless of even hubby's concerns!

My only concern is, is that 'stslavik' has a good point about the resident 'idiots' and attitude problems in most dojos.

You could mention something about the infant having it's own personal air-bag??

  3. "Don't worry, my practising Karate won't harm you... I'm mean... the baby... I mean.... who are we talking about again?"

My wife said all her brains went to the kid.  Upon her return to class post-partum, she had regressed to almost white belt, and she was (at the time) just about 6 weeks from being elligible to test for 2nd Dan.....  that was a looooooong summer getting her caught up.  The baby on the hip made it much more challenging :)  But hey, she's 2 now and can perform most of the requirements for Yellow Belt much better than some of my teenagers!!!

  4. 'Are you being snarky!'

  5. consider this-ok it doesn't matter to you as long as you get your own way but imagine how the other students and the instructer would feel if something did happen to you?accidents happen and it is a contact sport or pastime?if you want to take a risk with yourself and your unborn child thats up to you but why should the other students and the teacher have to share that risk and that responsibility that is yours?

EDIT.its not just about sparring there are other things that can happen that are accidental and the person that caused the accident has to live with the guilt if something happens to you or your unborn child which in my opinion is not fair to that person.

EDIT.is this a question or are you wanting someone to agree with your opinion?

  6. D) i'm faking the pregnancy

  7. D) Say you are a self-centered fool, and do not care if you hurt your baby.

  8. Say "If I stopped doing karate then the only nearby object for me to take my aggression out on would be you."

Or say "My mother used to nag at me like that"

  9. Practice forms at a slow pace, work on hand forms and slow drills. That would be all I would allow you to do if you were my student. I don't give a sh*t if you got permission from GOD, there is no way I would let you into the ring wile pregnant.

"I only ask that my sparing partners don't hit me in the abdomen"

    Like thats gonna happen.

You are an insurance claim waiting to happen.

As I've said to many times in the past

    THINK, PEOPLE, THINK

  10. I trained until I was 3 weeks from my due date! I was not allowed to actually sparr.....I shadow fought for my tests and training to get the motions down, but there was no hitting. Other than that I got quite a bit done. I also continued my cardio kickboxing classes until my doctor said no more. I found that with some people I just had to remind them that they were not my doctor. And I was pregnant...not disabled! Theres a reason God chose to surround the baby with a water bag! Women used to work in the fields until they delivered!! And were probably healthier than the average american mother!!

  11. Try something more along the lines of "Thanks for your concern, but I'm cleared with my doctor."

The one thing you don't want to do is be too snarky with people who are hitting you when you really can't be sure that they have their egos in check. You never know what would set a sparring partner off, and it's best not to risk them being annoyed or whatever and hitting you out of an uncontrolled moment of personal frustration. The "I'll show her" attitude can be very dangerous, especially after you beat them ;)

    Be safe!

    EDIT:

In that case, "Hey, you're born naked, screaming, and wet. I just want that to be an improvement."

  12. dude...I would not risk it...skydiving is much safer...

  13. "Want me to show you how safe it is?"
