  1. No because other then family and close friends, as well as some others I work with that are also in Martial Arts, no one knows I train. I do not bring it up to anyone I don't know.

Martial arts is supposed to be for you, not anyone else. If you do feel you have to tell people, and you get this or a similiar reaction, shake it off and realize that you are dealing with a narrow minded moron who would do the same thing about anything he did not understand or appriciate.

  2. Oh come on, have some fun with it. I do have people that do that to me (I am a second dan black belt in tae-kwon-do) alot, but i find it funny. You just need to learn to laugh, and not take all aspects of martial arts so seriously. You have to learn that the rest of the population that doesn't take martial arts is very stereo typical about it. So, just lighten up, and take a laugh or two, is doesn't have to be all serious.

I don't go talking about how i do martial arts to my friends ( iam a junior in high school) to impress them, but if it does come up in conversation, i do say yes. If there ever is a fight or something, i walk away, unless if the life of someone that a care about is being threatened, or my own life.

But, lighten up, most people who do raise their leg up and act like they are doing martial arts will start to laugh, so laugh with them, and let it go, cause they probabaly don't mean to offend you. Just let it go, and relax.

  3. The last answer was best in my books...

Why does it matter, they are the ones that look like idiots... and they are just being funny (whether or not they are trying to). Let it slide.

I know lots of people that make jokes about police and donuts but it doesnt mean that the police really eat that many donuts or that we don't respect the cops... it is just humour...

  4. Nothing really like that happened to me,but i hate when people read my shirts and say "WHOAH DUDE SHOW ME SOME JIUJITSU HOMIE, HEY SHOW ME BLAH BLAH BLAH" and like "YOU DO KARATE? WAH WAH WAH" with their hands in the karate chop position.

I know i wear the shirts, but i lack the clothing, plus i like wearing them.

It gets annoying sometimes, but we'll get over it.

  5. *sighs* i get fed up with people lifting the leg up, arms stretched up and saying "Crane Technique, if do right no can defend"

  6. It just goes to show that ignorance and immaturity are rampant.  I'm also a Brown Belt in tae kwon do.  Most people simply don't understand what it take to earn a belt, any belt.  They behave like idiots in an attempt to make us look stupid.  Maybe the next time someone does the "Crane", tell them to go for it and knock them on their asss.

  7. There is a second degree black belt where I take lessons who happens to be a junior in high school.  He will not admit to people in his high school that he trains in the martial arts.  If there is a potential conflict at school, he walks away from it.

I don't know if he just wants to avoid trouble at school or what.  I know that he works out with a heavy bag for punching and kicking, and is very fast and aggressive at sparring in the martial arts school.  I am sure if he were forced into a fight outside of school, he would cause any aggressor to end a fight. He would never use excessive force, but the fight would end quickly.

  8. yeah i've never had that done because as a jr. black belt, i've learned over the past 10 years that its kinda important to not let your classmates know that you do karate (because some of them can be your enemies).

but i wouldn't find it annoying because they're making fun of me and what i do, but if we got in a fight......i'll be laughing at the end.
