Oi-Tsuki - Lunge Punch

Kizami Tsuki - Jabbing Punch

Gyaku Tsuki - Reverse Punch

What movement makes each of these different?

It's the summer holidays so I can't ask my sensai. I won't be going back for a while, but I want to practice.

Can someone help me out?

I've looked on youtube... but they all look the same to me... (yep... i'm a beginner... just trying to get to terms with it all)

  1. Summer holiday???

  2. Im a black belt in Shotokai karate and ive only ever used the first on the list, which is a straight forward step forward and punch coming from the hip, hope this helps

  3. Gyaku Tsuki - the Reverse Punch

One of the most powerful punches in Karate; especially Shotokan.

The left leg is extended if punching with the right hand while the right leg is brought back.  Essentially you are forming a left-leaning stance.

The right leg is bracing up the forward punch of the right hand.  The timing is crucial as both punch and right leg must help each other.  The right leg braces the punch and gives the reverse punch extraordinary power.  The reverse punch is meant to be a fight stopper.
