Karel Abraham gains from post-race Estoril test - MotoGP Update
Karel Abraham, the rider for Cardion AB Motoracing and his crew was able to call it a fruitful day when they ended the post-race test session on Monday, just after the bwin Grande Premio de Portugal on Estoril.
The Czech rider is the sole rider for the Ducati satellite team and he was successful to complete the official one day test after the Portuguese Grand Prix held on Sunday, May 1.
Abraham started the test with pain in his elbow and finger which he received during Sunday’s race where he had a drastic fall. He had a run of 85 laps in two test sessions on his Ducati Desmosedici GP11. His best lap time was 1:38.087 seconds, claiming 12th
place on the final time sheet of the day.
Abraham explained, “Unfortunately, in one of the corners the rear tyre slipped and I crashed.” After his return to the track he made some countable progress during the test session.
After gaining some numbers on the speedometer and improved traction he concluded his test by saying, “I believe that we found a good set-up during this Test.”
The Czech rider seemed satisfied with the performance he gave at the test run, whereas his team mechanics played with a focus on improving the rear-end grip of the GP11.
The under steer problem is a DNA characteristic of the Ducati, which has also been highlighted by the several times world champion, Valentino Rossi, who is struggling with his mechanics to get rid of it. The lose rear-end traction cost him the Portuguese
Grand Prix, where he fell in the ‘Not Classified’ category after running 27 laps on race-day.
Karel Abraham is the first rider from Czechoslovakia to participate in the premier class of the MotoGP, the top class of the motorcycle racing world. He is one of the two rookies in the 2011 season. Abraham is joined by Cal Crutchlow, the new kid in the
Monster Yamaha Tech3 garage. Both rookies are placed in the satellite teams.
The Cardion AB Motoracing rider is aboard a factory based Ducati Desmosedici GP11 and he has ridden in every class on his way to the premier category.
This will be Abraham’s seventh season in the World Championship including his other categories of 125cc, 250cc and in last year’s Moto2 class. The 2010 season was the best of his career, as he improved tremendously in the new Moto2 class by scoring his first
ever podium finish at the Motegi Twin circuit. He then had a maiden win at the season’s final round in Valencia, afterwards announcing his step up to MotoGP.
