Karen Lunn and Joanna Klatten take the first round lead in Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open
Karen Lunn and Joanna Klatten smashed a score of 6-under par 66 each, in the first round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open to take an early lead.  The Ladies European Tour event is taking place at the par-71 Golf Gerre Losone.
Australian ace Lunn chose to tee-off from the back in the presence of torrential winds and reeled two birdies to set herself on track for the lead. Utilizing the confidence earned from the first half of the round, Lunn clawed five more birdies against a double-bogey six on the opening hole and wrapped the day in lead.
The player attained an average of 242 yards in driving distance and hit a success rate of 71 percent in driving accuracy, which meant that he missed only eight fairways during teeing. Such a success rate deserves appreciation, as majority of the field suffered in the hands of the wind.
Lunn was followed by French rookie Klatten, who birdied eight holes, bogeyed four and aced one. The 26-year-old seemed satisfied with her game.
While speaking to reporters, Lunn said, “It started not so well. I three putted the first and I had been struggling with the putting since Slovakia and so I was a little bit worried. I thought, ‘I hope this is not the start of another bad putting round.’ From the hole, after I figured something out in my putting stroke and I just started holing everything. I was hitting everything pretty close to the pin. I was just feeling good.”
A four-way tie was seen at the third spot on the leaderboard, which included Dutch Christel Boeljon, Lydia Hall, Melissa Reid and Rachel Jennings.
Boeljon, Hall and Reid managed to keep their scorecards free from bogeys, despite the heavy rainfall that made the greens harder.
“Even though we had torrential rain this morning, they held up really well. I just love putting on them,” said Hall regarding the conditions of the green.
A group of 13 players, which included Becky Brewerton, sit a stroke behind with a score of four- under par.
