Karen Lunn finishes 52nd in Australian Ladies Masters
Karen Lunn was seen struggling in the Australian Ladies Masters at Royal Pines, Gold Coast, on Sunday, as she tried her best to break par, but could not cap off the event like she wanted.
The tournament at Royal Pines turned into a nerve-racking battle on the last day but Lunn had her aims to achieve.
She finished tied for 52nd and was a little confused, as she missed out several chances to improve her position.
She kicked off the last round with plenty of confidence but ended up carding a string of pars. With a few birdies, she did pose a little threat to her rivals but most of the time she appeared to be in trouble.
The veteran Aussie parred the first 2 holes and went for a bid birdie on the 3rd hole. Although the weather condition was conducive, Lunn could not break her par. She parred 5 consecutive holes, scoring a total 36 on the front nine.
On the back nine, she could not break par. Parring 5 holes in row took a serious toll on her score on the leaderboard.
Forging ahead with consistency and strong nerve, she avoided bogeys. Despite her cautious play, she managed 2 bogeys.
Lunn knew if she really wanted to bolster her position on the leaderboard, she had to steer clear of making too many pars. She let out a sigh of relief when she carded her 2nd birdie of the day.
Lunn’s best round was the 1st, as she capped off the day by carding a 3-under 69. She reeled off 2 straight birdies on the par-4 1st and par-4 2nd hole.
She faltered a little and ended up shooting a disastrous bogey on the par-4 4th and par-4 13th. She made 5 birdies in the 1st round in total.
Expressing her feelings about the last round, Lunn said that she wanted to gain the upper hand, given good performance early in the tournament but there were a number of holes on which she could not keep a firm grip on her club.
"I missed some putting opportunities on the first day," the-45-year-old Aussie said.
She conceded that it was not her day. Finishing 52nd is not commendable but Lunn appeared in high spirits. She vowed that she will try not to make the same mistakes in next events.
