Karim Benzema's future at Real Madrid, says agent
Karim Benzema will be staying at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future, according to the player’s agent.
The Frenchman has been strongly linked with moves to clubs in Italy and England, including English Premier League clubs Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool and Serie A giants Juventus.
The striker has found it difficult to break into the first team at Madrid since arriving last summer from Olympique Lyonnais. He only started 14 games in La Liga last season and scored eight goals.
The lack of success on the pitch with Madrid impacted on Benzema at international level, as he was left out of the France squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
However, any speculation linking the player with a move away from the Bernebau has proved to be unfounded, with the 22-year-old’s agent Karim Djaziri insisting that he will not be on the move when the transfer window opens for business once again in January.
He told Calcio Mercato that: "The future of Karim Benzema will be at Real Madrid. Are Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool close to a deal? I categorically deny these rumours. He is a Real Madrid player and will remain a Real Madrid player."
The news will come as a blow to the likes of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has long been keen on securing the services of the talented frontman.
Benzema first made an impact with Lyon after becoming the club’s main striker at the age of just 19. He had already played a bit-part role in helping the club to win the Ligue 1 title in the three previous seasons, but his 32 goals in 52 matches across all competitions in the 2007-08 campaign earmarked him as one of the brightest young talents in the European game.
