Karin Prinsloo conquers Women’s 100m freestyle semi-finals: Day five - South African LC Nationals
Karin Prinsloo of NTS-NT conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 100m freestyle on day five of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Friday, April 20.
The 22-year-old Prinsloo devastated hopes of her challengers by snaring top qualification spot in the playoff of the 100m discipline. With her immaculate efforts, she dominated the semi-finals and earned her way into the final round as strongest contender
for gold medal.
Prinsloo, who qualified into the semi-finals as fastest swimmer, exceeded expectations of her supporters by making a significant improvement in her pace in the seconds round as she clocked an effort of 55.63 seconds.
Her stupendous effort was trailed by Lehesta Kemp, who remained nearly one second behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 56.84 seconds for second position.
The third qualification spot of the race was secured by Vanessa Mohr, who stayed nearly two strokes behind and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 57.12 seconds for third position.
The 17-year-old Mohr was chased by Leone Vorster of NTS-NT, who stayed nearly three strokes slower from her and surfaced on the finishing wall with the timing of 57.59 seconds for fourth position.
Vorster was followed by Kayla Ferreira, who remained just 0.06 seconds behind and ended her swim in a time of 57.65 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed forceful efforts of Charl S Crous in the semi-finals of Men’s 200m backstroke. The 21-year-old Crous proved his supremacy over his challengers and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.10 seconds.
He was chased by Darren Murray, who remained just an inch slower from him and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 00.18 seconds.
Murray was trailed by Michael Meyer, who captured third position of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 01.36 seconds. Similarly, Meyer was chased by Ricky C Ellis, who finished four in the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.70 seconds.
Furthermore, these contestants will compete with each other in the playoffs of their exclusive events where the top position holders will be awarded medals.
