Karin Prinsloo conquers Women’s 200m backstroke semi-finals: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Karin Prinsloo of NTS-NT conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 200m backstroke on day six of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 22-year-old Prinsloo enjoyed a splendid lead over her challengers in the second round of the distant backstroke event and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With her relentless efforts, she faced no trouble in seizing the top qualification spot of the race as she touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.74 seconds.
She was followed by Na Van Niekerk of LP-LP, who remained nearly six seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 16.87 seconds for second position.
The 13-year-old Niekerk was trailed by Ashley-Cooper of WPA-WP, who stayed almost two seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 18.53 seconds for third fastest qualification spot.
The fourth finest qualification spot of the event was secured by Natasha De Vos of NTS-NT, who stayed almost 0.50 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.16 seconds.
She was followed by Janneke Malan of KZNA-KZ, who remained 0.47 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 19.63 seconds.
The sixth best qualification spot of the event was obtained by Rene D Warnes of KZNA-KZ, who remained 0.39 seconds behind and ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 20.02 seconds.
The 20-year-old Warnes was chased by Kathryn Baumann of CGA-CG, who finished seventh in the semi-finals by posting 2 minutes and 22.27 seconds.
The last qualification spot of the race was secured by Amy N Peens of NTS-NT, who ended her sprint in eighth place by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 22.31 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events whereas these finalists will compete with each other in their respective playoffs, where the winners will be awarded medals.
