Karin Prinsloo conquers Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day four - South African LC Nationals
Karin Prinsloo of NTS-NT conquered gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Thursday, April 19.
The 22-year-old Prinsloo stayed prominently ahead of her following swimmers in the four-lap discipline and reached the finishing end for gold medal. With her immaculate efforts, she faced no trouble in taking away the title of the 200m event.
Her quickest response to the start placed her in a comfortable lead over her challengers and she completed her first lap of the race in a time of 27.56 seconds.
Her scintillating effort was trailed by her teammate, Leone Vorster, who remained second fastest swimmer in the second lap and posted a time of 28.01 seconds.
Prinsloo continued her laudable efforts in the second lap of the discipline, where she went full throttle and ended her first half of the race in a time of 57.60 seconds.
She was followed by Vorster, who remained nearly 0.60 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her sprint in a time of 58.22 seconds.
She continued her nerve-wrecking form in the third lap of the event, where she went on a rampage and strengthened her position for top finisher by posting a time of 1 minute and 28.54 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained nearly half second ahead of Vorster, who covered the equivalent distance with the timing of 1 minute and 28.93 seconds.
Prinsloo remained dominant over her challengers in the final lap as she reached the finishing wall first with an effort of 1 minute and 59.53 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained nearly one second faster from Vorster, who occupied silver medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.47 seconds.
The 24-year-old Vorster was chased by Wendy A Trott of WPA-WP, who occupied bronze medal of the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 02.80 seconds.
In addition, the position holders collected awards and accolades for their notable efforts in the 200m discipline at the medal ceremony of the championship.
