Karin Prinsloo dominates at the 2011 All African Games in Mozambique – Swimming news
South Africa’s Karin Prinsloo impressed the arena with his magical performance as he secured four gold medals at the 2011 All African Games, held in Mozambique, from September 5-10. The event was staged at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo.
Karin secured the gold medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle and also won the Women’s 400m medley relay crown. Moreover, Prinsloo snared the 200m freestyle title, while she secured the gold medal in the 100m freestyle event.
In the Women’s 50m freestyle final heat, Karin Prinsloo came out strongly and notched the golden crown on the podium by posting a winning time of 25.98 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Zimbabwe's Nicole Horn earned silver medal on the podium by posting
an inspiring time of 26.73 seconds. South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon settled for bronze in a time of 26.75 seconds.
Jessica Vieira of Mozambique wound up fourth in a time of 27.01 seconds. Mariam Corsini of Mozambique earned fifth place honours with a stunning mark of 27.02 seconds, while Zeineb Khalfallah of Tunisia settled sixth with a time of 27.16 seconds. Algeria’s
Fella Benaceur earned seventh spot with a mark of 27.77 seconds, while Jade Howard was placed eighth in a spot of 27.85 seconds.
Secondly, Karin Prinsloo notched the Women’s 400m medley relay title of the platform with her compatriots, including Suzaan van Biljon, Mandy Loots and Natasha De Vos with a captivating mark of 4 minutes and 14.00 seconds. In the corresponding race, Zimbabwe
earned second place honours with an impressive mark of 4 minutes and 24.01 seconds, while Algeria earned bronze medal on the podium by submitting a matchless time of 4 minutes and 29.29 seconds.
Mozambique finished fourth with a time of 4 minutes and 34.98 seconds, while Kenya earned fifth place honours with a captivating mark of 4 minutes and 50.01 seconds. Nigeria settled sixth in a time of 4 minutes and 52.52 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m freestyle final race, Prinsloo hit the wall with a fastest time of 1 minute and 59.84 seconds to win the gold title of the platform. Zeineb Khalfallah of Tunisia earned silver medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 2 minutes
and 05.44 seconds, whereas, Natasha De Vos South Africa settled for bronze title with a mark of 2 minutes and 06.20 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Kristen Lapham of Zimbabwe wound up fourth with a time of 2 minutes and 07.22 seconds. Kristen Lapham’s partner, Nicole Horn finished fifth in 2 minutes and 08.00 seconds, whereas, Malia Mghezzi Bekhouche of Algeria earned sixth
place honours with an inspiring mark of 2 minutes and 09.16 seconds. Shannon Austin was placed seventh with a mark of 2 minutes and 12.36 seconds.
Raquel Lourenco earned eighth spot with a time of 2 minutes and 32.19 seconds. Last, but not the least, Karin Prinsloo took home the Women’s 100m freestyle title of the platform by posting a winning time of 56.05 seconds.
The arena applauded for the scintillating swims of all South African swimmers, while the victorious were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
