Karin Prinsloo earns Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day seven - South African LC Nationals
Karin Prinsloo of NTS-NT earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on seventh day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Sunday, April 22.
With her immaculate efforts, the 22-year-old Prinsloo snared gold medal of the discipline. She remained considerably ahead of her challengers from the start of the race and ensured her place on the victory stand for gold medal
Her alluring effort remained significantly ahead of her strongest challenger, Ashley-Cooper, from the start of the race as she ended her first lap of the swim with the timing of 30.11 seconds.
Ashley-Cooper suffered a loss of 1.15 seconds over her foregoing swimmer and completed her first lap of the swim with the timing of 31.26 seconds.
The same continued in second lap of the race, where Prinsloo strengthened her position for top finish and concluded her initial round of the swim by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.86 seconds.
The following swimmer remained nearly three seconds slower and covered the equivalent distance with the timing of 1 minute and 05.55 seconds.
With her continued efforts, Prinsloo dominated the third lap of the swim, where she tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 37.00 seconds. Her effort remained 4.08 seconds faster from Ashley-Cooper, who ended 150 metres of the race by producing a
time of 1 minute and 41.08 seconds.
Subsequently, Prinsloo showered her expertise in the final lap of the race, where she went full throttle and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 10.76 seconds.
She was followed by Ashley-Cooper, who stayed nearly six seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.53 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Na Van Niekerk of LP-LP, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 16.97 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship completed after the conclusion of all listed events while the position holders were awarded medals at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
