Karin Prinsloo occupies Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day three -
South African LC Nationals
Karin Prinsloo of NTS-NT occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on day three of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Wednesday, April 18.
The 22-year-old Prinsloo devastated hopes of her opponents as she proved her eligibility for the crown of the double lap backstroke event. With her superb efforts, she spoiled the party of her fellow swimmers and ensured her top finish on the victory stand.
Prinsloo remained in a lead of nearly one body length from her following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.52 seconds for gold medal.
She was trailed by Ashley-Cooper of WPA-WP, who stayed 0.95 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds for silver medal.
The 19-year-old Ashley-Cooper was chased by Prinsloo’s team-member, Lehesta Kemp, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.07 seconds for bronze medal.
Kemp was trailed by Amy N Peens, who stayed 0.74 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and completed her swim in fourth best place by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 04.81 seconds.
Meanwhile, Suzaan van Biljon earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke. The 23-year-old Biljon stayed prominently ahead of her challengers and ended her swim in first place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.76 seconds.
She was chased by Tara Nicholas of KZNA-KZ, who remained nearly 1.30 seconds behind and claimed silver medal of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 10.01 seconds.
The 16-year-old Nicholas was chased by her team-member, Ronwyn Roper, who stayed 0.84 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 10.85 seconds for bronze medal.
The 24-year-old Roper was chased by Justine Macfarlane of CGA-CG, who finished fourth with the timing of 1 minute and 11.10 seconds.
In addition, the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their gruelling efforts after the session.
