Karin Sjodin happy after grabbing second spot in the second round at Crossings Course
Karin Sjodin, who has been winless since turning professional in 2005, posted a solid 64 in the second round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic to stand tied for the second place.
Hailing from Sweden, Sjodin has been struggling to prove her worth in professional golf. However, the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic brought plenty of surprises for the 28-year-old star.
Sjodin kicked off the first round in a decent style, as she carded a 72. She was standing tied for the 50th spot at the end of the first round.
She recorded two bogeys, one double bogey, an eagle and two birdies. The opening round was awash with a mixture of surprises and disappointments. She bogeyed the first hole.
Sjodin cheered the spectators when she reeled off her first birdie on the par-5 4th. She let down her fans again when she registered a double bogey on the 7th.
On the back nine, the Swedish star continued her mercurial performance, as she birdied the 14th. She received a big round of applause from the spectators when she recorded an eagle on the par-5 16th.
Sjodin appears to have found form, as she has shown in recent events that she has the ability to bounce back. She performed amazingly well in the first major tournament of the current season — Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Despite a strong field that featured players like the current world number one Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen, Sjodin finished tied for the 4th
— something analysts said helped her regain her composure after facing a series of defeats.
Speaking to the media at the end of the second round at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, the Swedish golfer said that she just kept her cool on the course, and played a natural game.
“I learned my game probably belongs more in the A times than the B times for the better finishes. And I also think I handled it really well, I wasn't nervous,” the happy star said.
“I started off playing really well that last round, even though I couldn't get anything going in the middle round portion of it, but I think I just feel really solid over the ball right now”.
When asked how she posted a stunning 64 in the second round, Sjodin said that she found the course easy to play. “I really like what it looks like off the tee, all the lines. And I think hitting it far, I can take it over a few bunkers that most people
probably play around,” she added.
