Karisztian Pars, Betty Heidler dominate IAAF World Hammer Throw Challenge in Monaco – Athletics news
Krisztian Pars, the 29-year-old Hammer Thrower from Hungary, along with Betty Heidler, the 28-year-old Hammer Thrower from Germany, after prevailing at the IAAF World Hammer Throw Challenge in Monaco, have been awarded with the cash prizes of US$ 30,000
each.
In this year’s IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge, which was the second season of the event, overall nine meetings were observed which extended seven scoring chances for men and six for their women counterparts.
Pars, who had represented Hungary at the 2004 and 2008 edition of the Olympics, and who was the silver medallist in this year’s World Championships in Athletics, annihilated Dilshod Nazarov by an impressive four metres to claim success. Nazarov, the 29-year-old
athlete from Tajikistan, who was the winner of Zagreb competition, finished as a runner-up for second consecutive year.
On the Women’s side, Heidler, who is also a member of the Eintracht Frankfurt athletes’ team, built on her success with three wins to become capable of defending her event title. In order to prevail over Yipsi Moreno, her nearest competitor from Cuba, the
silver medal winner of this year’s World Championships created a stunning margin of seven metres.
Interestingly, in order to qualify for the final overall standings, an athlete must participate in three events at least, where their three best results are used to mark their respective rankings. The highest scores earned in these rankings are then used
to decide about the winners among men and women competitors.
In the Men’s events, Krisztian Pars from Hungary observed a total of 239.03 points, Dilshod Nazarov from Tajikistan marked a finish of 235.72 points and Primoz Kozmus, the third finisher on the podium landed for 233.9 points.
On the Women’s side, Betty Heidler finished for a staggering 228.09 points, Yipsi Moreno from Cuba settled for 220.46 points while Kathrin Klaas, another thrower form Germany scored 219.77 points to secure third position in the event.
