The Bayern Munich chairman admitted that it would be brilliant if his side is able to get the away goal advantage against Olympique Marseille.
Former European champions Bayern Munich will face French giants Olympique Marseille at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. The German outfit downed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 whereas
Marseille got the better of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in the knock-out stage.
Rummenigge feels that his side will surely get the upper hand if they score an away goal in the clash in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. The chairman added that although the French side has been struggling in the league this season, their European form
in Europe has been terrific.
The chief urged his side against complacency and admitted that a win will not be easy for his side. Rummenigge is targeting a place in the semi-final of the competition where the former German champions will most likely meet Real
Madrid, who won 3-0 against APOEL on Tuesday night.
The chairman, in an interview to the club’s official website, urged the team “to be totally focused and full of respect. Marseille are struggling in ninth in the French top flight but underestimating them would be a huge mistake.
We're not so arrogant to think we only have to turn up. Our goal is a place in the next round.”
The former Bavarian added that Bayern recent form has been fantastic and the side needs to continue playing the way it has been of late.
“It's been very good. We need to keep it up and score an away goal,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich’s sporting director Christian Nerlinger admitted that a draw would also be a favourable result for his team as the team will have to play the return leg in front of the home fans.
“A draw away from home in the Champions League is a solid foundation,” Nerlinger added.
Bayern Munich reached the final of the UEFA Champions League two years ago but lost to Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan in the final. The Reds have a great chance to play in the final which will take place at Allianz Arena.
