Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: Gokhan Inler can’t be blamed solely for Bastian Schweinsteiger’s injury
Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed his soft corner for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003’s midfielder Gokhan Inler whom he reckons can’t be blamed solely for Bastian Schweinsteiger’s injury.
Schweinsteiger collided with Inler during the second half of the Champions League group stage match and was rushed off the field.
Bayern played host to the Italian outfit Napoli on Wednesday, November 2, at Allianz-Arena. The Bavarian giants registered a 3-2 win over the Blues, courtesy a hat-trick from Mario Gomez. Federico Fernandez grabbed a brace for the Azzurri.
Schweinsteiger played an influential role during the first 45 minutes but unfortunately had a nasty collision with Inler, a few minutes after the restart. The player was forced off the pitch in the 54th minute, a time, when Bayern were leading
comfortably by a 3-1 margin.
The midfielder was replaced by Tymoshchuk, who will also stand in for the experienced German, until his return from injury. Bastian is expected to be out for up to a month and will only return in January, next year.
Rummenigge believed that it won’t be right to blame Inler for Schweinsteiger’s injury as both players were deeply involved in the contest and sadly collided.
He told Inler not to worry about the German as he is fine and has no complaints about the injury.
While talking to TZ, the CEO further enthused, "Bastian's loss hurts us very much, no question. But we will not blame Inler, these things can happen. The Champions League is not a prissy level; you have to fight through it. Bastian is without question a
very important player for us, but it is now on the others to compensate. This is a quality that we have to prove."
The president concluded his remarks by saying, We now have 10 points and are first in the so-called 'group of death.' [The win] was a giant step towards the knock-out rounds, we are totally satisfied."
Bayern are currently atop the league table with 25 points from 11 games and are four points clear of the second placed Schalke. They are also leading their Champions League Group A and will next be seen in action on Sunday, November 6, against Augsburg.
