Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: Manchester City will face difficulties when Financial Fair Play takes effect
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that Manchester City will face many difficulties when the Financial Fair Play takes effect from next season. He insisted that the cash rich club has been spending heavily in the transfer market and the high losses could even deprive them of Champions League football.
Bayern Munich have openly showed their interest in signing Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng this summer but the English club’s high valuation for the player has been an obstacle in the transfer. The former Hamburg player has also expressed his desire to leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 but the club’s 20 million Euro price tag is too much.
Rummenigge claimed that City could face the wrath of UEFA next season as they have 48 contracted players where the number has to be 25. He also insisted that the Abu Dhabi United Group owned club has heavy losses of around 143 million Euros which could keep them out of next year’s Champions League, given they qualify.
“I think they are going to have 48 players under contract, but according to Financial Fair Play they can have only 25. And according to their last balance sheet, if I'm correct, they are minus €143m. Maybe they still have a trick up their sleeves but I'm not sure that they will be permitted to play in the Champions League,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Chairman also admitted that Bayern will not pay astronomical prices for a player as City have done in the past. He added that the Bavarian giants have quoted the best possible price and also criticised Manchester City officials for dragging the transfer.
“We do not play Manchester City rates. The club apparently always adds a bonus on top of the price because they have an owner with no financial worries. But we certainly will not pay astronomical prices,” the chief concluded.
Bayern Munich are expected to wrap up the transfer of Jerome Boateng this week after reports claimed that a price of 15 million Euros was agreed between the two clubs.
