Karl-Heinz Rummenigge urges Bayern Munich to keep their feet on the ground – UCL News
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has urged the Reds to keep their feet on the ground after the 2-0 win over Manchester City. The two clubs locked heads on Tuesday, September 27, at Allianz-Arena.
Die Roten started the game as favourites but the visitors stayed firm for the first 38 minutes before conceding the opener to Mario Gomez. The German international doubled the score just seven minutes later, in the 45th minute, to secure all three
points for manager Jupp Heynckes’ side.
The chairman congratulated his side on registering an important win over the English opponents but urged them not to think too far ahead. He told that the Reds are still to make it to the next round and the Champions League hasn’t yet taken its full effect.
Rummenigge reserved praise for Jupp Heynckes whose immaculate managerial skills led Bayern to their second victory in group A. The Bundesliga giants previously defeated Villarreal away from home and are sitting pretty at the top with six points from two
games.
The chairman also hailed the efforts of striker Gomez, whose consistency levels are continuously reaping fruit for the German club. The 26-year-old is already the top goalscorer this season with 12 goals from 11 appearances in all competitions.
The striker also received honours for being the top scorer last campaign and is looking good to repeat the same feat at the end of this term.
While talking to a local newspaper, the chairman further enthused, "The Champions League doesn’t start for real until the knock-out stages. Before then, you have to be smart and successful. The game against Manchester City was a great moment for this team.
We’ve kept another clean sheet against top-class forwards. It was an acid test for this team, and especially the defenders. All credit to the players and the coach, they’ve dealt with it magnificently."
Bayern Munich are currently leading the league table with 18 points from seven games and are also atop their Champions League group followed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003, Manchester City and Villarreal.
