Karl Marx quote?

I once read a quote by Karl Marx that said something to the effect of: capitalism turns into socialism and socialism turns into communism.

I have not been able to find that quote again.

Would someone, anyone, give me a website containing that quote, and if possible, what kind of source it was from (a book, magazine article, etc.)?

It is not quite as simple as a quote. This is the theory Marx espoused, probably most completely in Das Kapital but really throughout his works.

Das Kapital is a huge unwieldly book which ought by rights available only as a prescription sleeping draught but if you are brave you could plow throught the index and cherry pick.

A commentary on Marx by a reputable academic would be much more approachable. I know you want to use the net for this but really asking at the local library which introductory text would best and most briefly suit your needs is a better idea. I studied Political Science at Uni many years ago and believe me this stuff is impenetrable even if read in German. The dicey standard of most translations makes it impossible and let's face it, Marx was no writer of page turners!
