Karl Oyston stands down as Blackpool chairman
Karl Oyston has resigned as chairman and director of Blackpool with immediate effect, just one match into the club’s first campaign in the Premier League.
As yet, it’s unclear why the 43-year-old has chosen now to step down, although a statement on the club’s official website confirmed that Oyston will remain at Bloomfield Road as acting Chief Executive until the end of the season, or in the interim until a new chairman is appointed.
The statement also revealed that the former chairman will continue to work closely alongside manager Ian Holloway on player recruitment and to oversee the continued development and reconstruction of Bloomfield Road.
“The club would like to emphasise that there will be no interruption in the recruitment of players or the work required on the stadium,” the statement added.
Blackpool cruised to an outstanding 4-0 opening day victory over Wigan Athletic last weekend, and now prepare for their next league fixture against Arsenal.
Holloway has been working hard to bring in new acquisitions before the transfer window closes, but their lack of financial clout has been widely-reported over recent weeks.
As well as new arrivals, the search now begins for a new chairman.
