Karl Platt wins sixth stage of the International MTB Challenge 2012; Fabian Giger claimed an overall victory
Karl Platt of Team Bulls wins the final stage of the Langkawi International MTB Challenge 2012 after his storming performance during the race.
He took a total time of 31 minutes and 46 seconds to occupy the top podium position and restricted his major opponents.
The cyclist rode brilliantly throughout the race and is finally rewarded with a stage victory during the sixth stage of the event.
Florian Vogel of Team Scott Swisspower and Burry Stander of Team Specialized occupied the second and the third positions respectively.
Eva Lechner of Team Colnago Sudtirol wins the women category of the race after she completed the race in 30 minutes and 44 seconds.
Lea Davison of Team Specialized finished 14 seconds behind at the second position with Nathalie Schneitter of Team Colnago Sudtirol holding the third position respectively.
Fabian Giger of Team Rabobank-Giant wins the overall classifications after completing the race in a quickest time of 10 hours, 40 minutes and 4 seconds.
"I knew I have a good lead before the race today so I just needed to stay close to the leading pack," said Giger.
"This is a memorable win for me. It is quite tough throughout in the overall race in Langkawi considering the heat, humidity, rain, deep trail, slippery tracks and all".
Kristian Hynek of Team Ceska Sporitelna Specialized finished 6 minutes and 18 seconds behind and achieved the second overall position with Karl Platt of Team Bulls, Emil Lindgren of Team Rabobank-Giant Offroad Team and Max Knox of Team Specialized achieving the third, the fourth and the fifth spots in the respective order.
Lea Davison finished second during the final day of the event but her performance during the past five days was good enough to win her an easy overall victory at the women category of the race.
She won the Langkawi International MTB Challenge 2012, Women final general classification with a huge margin of 10 minutes and 2 seconds over Elisabeth Sveum of Norway.
"I am so pleased to be on the podium and to win the title," said Davison,
"The whole race was hard but fun and I have to compliment the organizer for the good organization and allowing the riders to enjoy the waterfall and majestic stretch along the stream and beaches”.
Janka Stevkova of Team Slovakia, Nathalie Schneitter of Team Colnago Sudtirol and Eva Lechner of Team Colnago Sudtirol occupied the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
