Karl takes on the challenge of taking the Nuggets forward without Anthony
While Carmelo Anthony was happy about the prospect of joining the New York Knicks, Chauncey Billups, the Denver Nuggets captain was not ready to leave his home town and fans. On the other hand, the Nuggets coach George Karl is left without his All-Star
forward and leading scorer of the team, Anthony, plus Billups, the captain who was most reluctant to leave his hometown, Denver.
It’s hard to handle the team without its two most important players, but Karl is confident even after this whole dilemma. Despite losing one third of his team in the blockbuster trade, the Nuggets coach is hoping for the best for his team. The coach
was quoted as saying, "I might be crazy, but I think we can make the playoffs and I also think we can be a threat to win in the playoffs. I'm sorry. I just think our guys are good enough to grow up fast and to learn quick and to get excited about playing the
game."
The Nuggets who had never missed a single playoff after drafting Anthony to the team has even lost Billups, who did not want to be a part of the trade. Anthony and Billups left along with Anthony Carter, Sheldon Williams and Renaldo Balkman to join
the Knicks. At the other hand, the Nuggets received Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov from the Knicks whereas Kosta Koufos from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the three way deal.
Karl is now left with Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith and Nene Hilario and Karl has to make the most out of them and the newcomers. He has a new set of players who he has to get to know and get along with.
There are 24 more games left to play in the season and Karl is thinking positively about this change and thinks that the team is mature enough to move forward and get used to the idea of playing without former teammates.
Karl has been concentrating much on getting to know the new players who have just joined the team. He has been spending a considerable amount of time in the film room with the five new additions to the team.
Although the Nuggets are now no longer home to the two top players but they will have to make the best out of what they have acquired. The coach and existing Nuggets team will have to look closely as how to blend the team together.
The Denver Nuggets will meet the Boston Celtics Thursday night at Denver. Karl is thinking about using the newcomers as a line-up in the matchup. This will help them get a knowhow of the game and make it easy for them to face the opposite teams.
Karl and the Nuggets are looking forward to get the game started with the players they recently inherited. The 59-year-old coach is confident about the new players and who knows they might take the Nuggets to the playoffs this season as well and help
reshape the team into a better form.
