Karlene Pircher clinches Girls 100m breast-stroke gold - Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Karlene Pircher of Victoria conquered the gold medal of Girls 100m breast-stroke final in the 13-14 years old age category, on the second day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships on Sunday, September 18, at the
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
The 14-year-old Pircher formed the new age group record and occupied the gold medal of breast-stroke discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds. Her effort was 2.14 seconds under the previous mark of Tianni Gilmour of Queensland, who clocked
a time of 1 minute and 12.54 seconds in 2010.
Nevertheless, the gold medallist remained in a lead of 0.65 seconds over his closest competitor, Elise Pidutti of New South Wales, who submitted a time of 1 minute and 11.05 seconds for silver medal of the event. Pidutti remained 0.90 seconds ahead of Molly
Muir of Queensland, who clocked a third fastest time of 1 minute and 11.95 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Karlee Franek of New South Wales transpired as the fourth best swimmer of the breast-stroke discipline, as she remained 0.48 seconds slower than Muir and reported a time of 1 minute and 12.43 seconds. She was trailed by Chelsea Unwin of
Western Australia, who occupied fifth position of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 13.12 seconds.
Moments later, Franek’s team-member, Michael Campbell surfaced as the sixth position holder of the swim by producing a time of 1 minute and 13.48 seconds. Campbell managed a lead of nearly one second over her following swimmer, Logan Bristow of Western Australia,
who ended her swim with an effort of 1 minute and 14.25 seconds. The last spot of the race was secured by Jessica Hardstaff, who remained 0.65 seconds behind her former swimmer and ended eighth in a time of 1 minute and 14.90 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the wonderful efforts of all podium finishers in their respective meets, while these winners collected their awards and accolades after the session’s conclusion.
