Karma Paddy pads lead to win A2 race at Hove
In the world of greyhound racing, a little extra distance can go a long way, making the difference between a win and a loss. A quick burst of speed was the difference-maker for Karma Paddy,
and he used it to his advantage to win the 515m A2 race at the Brighton and Hove Greyhound Stadium.
A strong start from trap three worked well for Karma Paddy (7-2), as he led near the finish line. He would go on to win the race with a time of 30.13. Libretto (5-1) moved quickly away
from the pack, and battled Karma Paddy on the run to the finish. She ended up ¾ lengths behind him to take second place in 30.19.
Only a shoulder’s length separated second place from third, with Darfin Kate (7-2) matching the second-place time of 30.19 to finish third. She went wide early on, and ran on to a decent
finish. Low Flyer (8-1) crowded second en route to a fourth-place finish. His 30.43 finish placed him 3 lengths out of the top three.
Cash Attack, the 10-1 long shot, moved slowly away from the pack, and wound up in fifth place with a time of 30.51. He was a single length behind Low Flyer. Brave Echo, the 6-4 favourite,
disappointed many with his last-place finish. He crowded the first and second bends to finish a neck out of fifth place in 30.54.
In the 515m A1 race held later on, the odds makers anointed Farney King, Theessexwarrior, and Nuvolari as the 3-1 joint favourites before the race. However, only one of these dogs managed
to win the race, and that honour went to Farney King. An early pace from trap two allowed him to take the lead and run to a 30.07 finish. Cuteen Dusky (5-1) moved quickly away, crowded the run up, and ran on to claim second place in 30.13. He was just ¾ lengths
behind the winner.
Third place belonged to Westmead Zeus (7-2), who crowded first and ran on to finish in 30.25, 1½ lengths out of second place. Theessexwarrior baulked the run up and crowded first, losing
3 lengths in the process. He finished fourth with a time of 30.49.
Ifitstobe baulked at the quarter mark and crowded three-quarters to finish 1¼ lengths behind Theessexwarrior in 30.59. Finally, Nuvolari brought up the rear after moving slowly away and
baulking first. He finished a ½ length out of fifth place in 30.63.
The racing action at Brighton and Hove Greyhound stadium resumes on Thursday, 11 November with a 12-race card. The first race of the evening gets under way at 19:30.
