Karnataka Premier League Cup:
Bangalore Provident (Rural) vs. Maland Gladiators
Bangalore Provident (Rural) set up an easy 6-wicket victory against Maland Gladiators in the Karnataka Premier League Cup fixture played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Friday, 24thSeptember. The meager
total of 102 runs mustered by the Gladiators in 17.1 overs was easily chased by the Bangalore Provident (Rural) with 21 balls to spare and six wickets intact.
Mantri http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 Premier League (KPL) is a domestic Indian T20 cricket league established by the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) in August last year. The domestic T20 tournament was planned along the lines of the lucrative Indian
Premier League (IPL) and first edition of the Karnataka Premier League Cup was held from September 9 to 23, last year.
The final of the 1st Karnataka Premier League Cup was held on September 23, 2009 between Bangalore Provident (Rural) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Belagavi-Panthers-c770 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. The final was won by
Bangalore Provident (Rural) by five wickets after a nerve jangling clash.
The second edition of the KPL Cup is being held from 18th
September, 2010 to 3rd of October, 2010. The tournament is chaired by the secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Mr. Brijesh Patel, and features eight franchise teams representing various cities in Karnataka.
An impressive all-round performance from Bangalore Provident (Rural) in yesterday’s game has proven that they are the real champions of the inaugural Karnataka Premier League Cup. Chasing Malanda Gladiators’ below par 20-over total
of 102 runs, Bangalore Provident easily achieved the target by the 17th over for the loss of just 4 wickets. Aniruddha http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maniunath-Manjunath-c1886 – both
of whom scored 22 runs.
Remarkable bowling performances – complimented well by acrobatic fielding – from Bangalore Provident bundled Maland Gladiators out in the 18th over for a meager total of 102 runs. Only Sanjay Kumar and K Gowtham offered
resistance against the accuracy of the opposition bowling attack that was led by Abhishek Jagan. Only three Gladiators batsmen could get past 15 while rest of the cast succumbed for single digit scores including four ducks as well.
Struggling at 27 for 5 in the sixth over, Gladiators were helped by the efforts of their lower-order in order to get past double digits. Sanjay Kumar shared a useful stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chandrushekar-Avinash-c1228 and with K Goetham, taking the
side to a respectable total of 102 before the whole team was bowled out on the third ball of the 18th over.
Sanjay Kumar top scored with 36 runs from as many deliveries plundering three boundaries and a six followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gowtham-c1500’s fine knock of 27 runs from just 16 deliveries. Gowtham’s 28 minute stay at crease saw him hitting the ball
four times past the boundary rope including two lofty sixes as well.
Seamers Abhishek Jagan and Neravanda http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 R Bhatkal in Malanda Gladiators’ capitulation. All the three picked up two wickets each while Aniruddha Joshi and Amit Verma shared one wicket
apiece.
Amit Verma and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thilak-Naidu-c2664 started Bangalore Provident (Rural)’s run chase with an opening stand of 14 runs from 3 overs. Naidu departed on the first ball of 4th over after being trapped leg before by Rohan for 3. Kayan
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abbas-c41488 and Verma added 19 runs to the scorecard before the former mistimed Gowtham to Wagle leaving Bangalore behind with only 33 on board.
That became 41 for 3 when fluent opener Amit Verma was trapped lbw by Gowtham in his next over. At that stage, the KPL champions were desperate for some big partnership and that’s the time when Joshi took the initiative taking
the side to a six wicket victory.
