Karnataka hockey team receives sponsorship from Namma Metro: Hockey News
Namma Metro, also named as the Bangalore Metro, is a railway transport facility for the general public of the city, has offered a sponsorship deal to Hockey Karnataka (HK) for the 1st Hockey India (HI) Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship
that is to take place from June 10-19 in Bhopal, India.
Namma Metro is run by the Bangalore Metro Corporation Limited (BMRC), whose logo will be found on the outfit of the funded team.
This deal was made to HK last month, when the company sponsored the training camp set for the team, prior to the Nationals that was held for about 25 days. Moreover, the outfits of the team have also been funded by it.
In addition to the above, there were almost 50 camp attendants and all were given dietary benefits, as well as a proper training session by Jeeth Devaiah, the physical trainer that had been appointed for the job.
From among these, a total of 17 were finally selected for the squad, whereas two international veterans were called in for the Karnataka team. These included the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) players Prabhjot Singh and Deepak Thakur.
The Chandigarh-based player, Prabhjot will be joining the team directly at the championship venue in Bhopal.
Apart from the above two mentioned name, the third non-Karnataka player called in for the squad is Irshad Ali, who will also show his presence at the event.
Hockey Karnataka’s general Secretary, A B Subbaiah, blissfully told media yesterday, "The players left for Bhopal on Rajdhani express today. It will be a comfortable journey to Bhopal where we will ensure they get the best of facilities. Besides, they will
get a daily allowance of Rs 450."
The team captain selected for leading the team in the national championship belongs to the Bharat Petroleum (BP) team, Amar Aiyamma, a striker.
The final Karnataka team includes Bharat Chetri and Tharun Thammanna as goal-keepers, VR Raghunath, Irshad Ali and SK Uthappa as defenders, Vikramkanth, MB Aiyappa, Rafeeq, Bipin Bopaiah and MK Muddappa as mid-fielders whereas Deepak Thakur, Prabhjot Singh,
Amar Aiyamma, Hari Prasad, Pradhan Somanna, KP Dinesh, KM Somanna, KS Appanna and Nithin Thimmaiah as forwards.
The squad will be accompanied by the team’s coach BJ Kariappa, manager BS Venkatesh and the technical team.
The team’s first match is going to be played against Assam on June 11, under pool B.
