Karnataka 192 and 475 v Delhi 258 and 250 - Karnataka won by 159 runs
On Tuesday, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 in the four-day Group B Ranji Trophy match that was played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Tagged as the underdogs, the pressure was on Karnataka but they did not disappoint their fans and although after getting bowled out for 192 in their first innings they were heading for a train wreck, they then gave a decent performance by restricting Delhi on a first innings score of 258.
Still this performance was not enough, as Delhi were in the lead. Karnataka, however, acted like a new side in their second innings as they decapitated Delhi by smashing a resilient score of 475, giving Delhi a target of 410 to win.
Delhi had a modest end to their third-day with 40 on the board for the loss of three wickets. However, a big performance was expected from them in order for their fans to witness an emphatic victory.
Nothing was certain, as there was every chance that Delhi might pull off a magical performance on the final day to cross the finish line.
Many argued that Karnataka would have to play really bad in order to lose from this position.
With stakes higher than ever before for both sides, Tuesday morning saw Delhi resume their run chase with Mohit Sharma (4*) and M Manhas (1*).
Disaster struck soon when with only 43 runs on the scoreboard, the partnership was ended on the demise of Sharma, who faltered without adding a run to his overnight score.
M Manhas and VP Rawal, then led their side towards 76 before Delhi saw their fifth wicket go down when VP Rawal was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 off Sharath with 13 to his name.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Bhatia-c82926 was then the next to come in the middle and he forged a productive partnership alongside Manhas to take the score to 186, before the latter perished after smashing 80 runs.
With Manhas back in the pavilion, Delhi were on the verge of a big defeat as it was too much to ask from the tail to cross the finish line.
As Bhatia belted 63 followed by a 41-run knock from S Narwal, Delhi crumbled on 250 runs at the end of their second innings, losing the match by 159 runs.
