Karol Beck crushed Marco Chiudinelli to reach the final – Open Castilla y Leon 2011 CH
Third seeded Slovakian, Karol Beck, faced no real challenge to overcome the Swiss competitor, Marco Chiudinelli in the semi-final of Open Castilla y Leon, being played at Segovia, Spain, on Saturday afternoon.
Being a part of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event, the contest was played on the hard court, with the third seeded Slovak winning convincingly. Beck wrapped up victory at 7-6(7), 6-2, to eject
Chiudinelli from the tournament with ease and make a berth in the final to have a title shot at the championship title.
It contest appeared fairly poised in the opening set, with both men competing extremely hard to get the better of one another and dragged the set into the tie breaker round. Beck bagged the opening set in the decider and once he
got his winning impetus in the game, the third seeded never looked back in the game. He raced away to victory in style by clinching the second set, blowing away the Swiss hopes by his belligerence and registering an impactful win in the semis.
Despite of a par serve of 55 per cent in the game, Beck reeled 30 out of 36 first serve points in the game to drive his opponent from the competition. The Slovak fired eight aces in the matchup and conceded three double faults
en route to victory.
The opening set took off with intense tennis being played from both contestants and not serve breaks were seen at all. A regular game was witnessed which took the scores to 6-6 to enforce a tie breaker round into play. The decisive
tie breaker also went on neck-to-neck, as none of the contestants was prepared to submit the game to his opponent. The decider was stretched to a total of 16 points, with the third seeded Slovak eventually winning at 7-6(7), to get one up in the game.
Beck was off to a flyer in the following set and registered his first serve break of the day to race away to 3-0 lead. He continued with his momentum in the rest of the game as well and nailed another serve break in the eighth
game to wrap up victory at 6-2, getting into the final of Open Castilla y Leon. He will take on the unseeded Frenchman, Gregoire Burquier, in the final showdown on Sunday afternoon in Segovia. The French was successful agains Evgeny Donskoy of Russia in the
semi-final matchup, defeating him in an enthralling three-set thriller 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 6-3.
