Karol Beck defeats Riccardo Ghedin in the second round – Istanbul Challenger 2012 CH
Seeded seventh in the tournament draw, Karol Beck crushed the Italian, Riccardo Ghedin, in the second round of the Istanbul Challenger 2012, held at the hard courts of Turkey. Beck gave a straight sets defeat
his rival 6-2, 6-1 in a total of one hour and 16 minutes.
The 26-year-old Italian was unable to retain his initial serve in the match and could not secure his initial front. The Slovakian rival took hold of the opportunity and clamped a 2-love against his adversary.
Ghedin kicked forward a slow start and was unable to dominate his rival. Towards the end, Beck broke his opponent’s serve and clamped the lead in the series by a 6-2 score.
In the opener, the Slovakian veteran displayed a low first serve accuracy of 38 percent but he secured lead as he gleefully converted seven of eight first and nine of 13 in second delivery points. The right-hander
Italian professional marked a 60 percent first serve precision and attained 11 of 18 first and five of 12 second serve deliveries. From five serve breaks offered to him, he pocketed away three, whereas his competitor could not attain any.
The 30-year-old, Beck displayed his excellent run of form in the final set as confidently stepped on the hard courts. However, both the participants were unable to uphold their original serve but the score line
evened out to 1-all in the second game. Ghedin’s game plan drastically declined, as he was unable to prolong his serve throughout and provided no opposition to his challenger. The higher ranked, Beck triumphed over his rival with a 6-1 win.
The key reason of the Italian challenger’s breakdown was his double faults at the critical moments in the set. He had a stumpy first serve accuracy of 50 percent, snatch six of 16 first and five of 16 second
deliveries. Beck managed to pull of two aces and double faulted once too. He had approximately similar first serve accuracy of 52 percent but won 10 of 12 first and three of 11 second serve breaks.
