Karolina Pliskova blue rains on Lyudmyla Kichenok in
quarterfinal – Slovak Open 2011
Fifth seeded Karolina Pliskova sent the Ukrainian qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok packing to the lockers in the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open.
On Friday the 18th of November, at the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia, both players confronted each other on indoor hard courts and after just fifty six minutes the fifth seeded Czech overpowered the
Ukrainian qualifier in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2.
The first set of the match saw; the fifth seed smash five aces and keep a geometric precision in the entire match. Her defence was as strong as an ox as she did not allow a single breakpoint opportunity for her adversary; instead,
she capitalized on all a hundred percent of her breakpoints won.
Moreover, she not only had a strong service game that aided her in accomplishing an ostentatious eighty percent of the total service points but also an average return that assisted her in attaining a fifty two percent of her total
return points.
Mean while, Kichenok faltered at her accuracy five times and though she had an average serve, she had a pitiable return that enabled her to accomplish only twenty percent of her total return points in the opening set.
Opening the first set of the match was Pliskova and she was able to hold her service game to kick off the scoreboard t 1-0. Following behind was Kichenok and she too held her respective serve to place herself on the scoreboard
at 1-1. In the following two games both the players once more bagged a game each and the score had tied at two games each at the end of the fourth game.
With a hold of serve in the fifth game and by capitalizing on a breakpoint in the sixth, Pliskova took the lead. As she held her serve for the last time, she was only a game away from clogging the opening set. She clogged the initial
round in eighth game with a 6-2 victory.
Both the players managed to hold their respective serves in the first two games. With a hold of serve in the third and by benefitting from a breakpoint in the fourth, the fifth seeded Czech reeled off two successive games.
In the following three games the players bagged a game each and the score had shifted to 5-2 with Pliskova leading the set. As she broke her adversary for the last time, she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
Next up for the fifth seeded Czech is third seeded Hungarian Timea Babos in the semi final of the tournament.
