Karolina Pliskova downs Michelle Larcher de Brito to reach the main round – Family Circle Cup 2012
World number 125, Karolina Pliskova, gusted away the 149th ranked Portuguese, Michelle Larcher de Brito, to put a step into the main round draw of the Family Circle Cup. She registered a straight sets triumph 6-4, 6-2
and took revenge of a loss that she encountered two years ago at the hands of the 19-years-old Portuguese.
The match started with a swap of breakpoints before both players registered serve holds to move the scores at 2-2. Brito was the one who fell into the trap for the second time. Pliskova turned the tables and won a breakpoint in
the fifth game. Both players didn’t squander any more serve games but the earlier breakpoint loss proved very critical for the Czech. She won the set that exerted immense pressure on the Portuguese.
Brito started the second set well but again lost her way in the midst of it. She dropped the serve game and went down 2-4 that almost killed her willpower to fight back and keep her chances alive. Pliskova broke serve in the seventh
game and grabbed the final serve game by squandering just one point.
Pliskova won 67 points in total compared to 53 of her rival. The Portuguese tennis professional just managed a single ace throughout the match whilst his competitor smacked nine aces overall. Pliskova definitely has a very strong
serve that helps her cause majorly.
Another interesting statistics that led to the downfall of the Portuguese player was her seven double faults compared to just two of her opponent. She wasn’t compromising on the pace of her second serves that gifted a lot of points
to her rival.
It was a commanding triumph for the Czech who will be facing the Kiwi tennis icon, Marina Erakovic, in the first round tournament. Unfortunately for the Czech, her twin sister, Kristyna Pliskova, fell apart in the final qualifying
round at the hands of the most talented player in the draw, Iveta Benesova. Kristyna fought extremely well and took the match to the last breath but couldn’t pull up an upset in the third set of the match.
