Karolina Pliskova thrashes Paula Kania in 2nd round – Slovak Open 2011

Fifth seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova conquered unseeded Pole Paula Kania in the second round of the Slovak Open 2011.
In Bratislava, Slovakia on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum, the two challengers had encountered against each other. After just forty six minutes the fifth seeded Czech got the best of the unseeded Pole by flogging her in straight sets
of 6-2, 6-2 on Thursday the 17th of November 2011.
In the first set of the match neither of the players committed a double fault but Pliskova had smashed two aces while, Kania had one less than her adversary’s. Pliskova had won a grandiose 90 percent of her first serves and she gained a competitive edge
because of her return serve which re-coiled everything that came its way. Moreover, it also assisted her in achieving 45 percent of her total return points
The Czech’s defence was very strong and she broke her opponent twice, in addition, she did not set up a single breakpoint opportunity in the entire opening set and instead capitalized on a hundred percent of her breakpoints won.
Mean while, Kania was unable to save any of her breakpoints and she had a very poor return serve which enabled her to attain a pathetic 16 percent of her total return points in the opening set. When all was said and done, Pliskova was a better player and
had won 64 percent of her total set points which were almost twice as more points than her opponents in the initial round.
The second set of the match was commenced by Kania and both the players were able to hold their respective serves. They managed to accomplish the feat again in the following two games and the score had tied at two games each at the end of the fourth game.
However, it was in the fifth game that Kania had line faulted on her second serve and endorsed a crucial breakpoint. Mean while, Pliskova had taken the lead by bagging two consecutive games, she then repeated the feat in the following two games and in doing
so; she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
Both the players had performed to their utmost however, due to Pliskova’s agility, stamina, defence and technique she won the match in straight two sets.
She will now be facing Ukrainian qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok in the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open 2011.
