Valery Karpin has backed Spartak Moscow’s transfer policy, saying that the Russian Premier League club paid right amount for the players unlike Zenit St. Petersburg
Spartak Moscow head coach, Valery Karpin, has insisted that the Russian Premier League club made the right decision not to sign Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra this summer after refusing to pay over the odds for the French midfielder.
News in Russian media suggested that Spartak were in the pole position to sign the former Arsenal and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 defensive midfielder.
However, the 27-year-old joined Anzhi Makhachkala instead of joining the Moscow-based club during the summer transfer window after preferring the Dagestani club, who continued spending
big on new signings.
Zenit St. Petersburg are the only club to match the Makhachkala-based club’s big spending power after splashing out 100 million Euros to sign http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 this summer.
And while the multi-million buys have failed to deliver since leaving Portugal, Karpin laughed at Zenit’s acquisitions, saying that the Spartachi were fortunate enough to avoid big spending.
The Red-Whites reportedly invested as little as 15 million Euros to sign Juan Insaurralde, Romulo, Majeed Waris, Jose Jurado and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar respectively.
“We decided to balance the books this year before making reinforcements. Jurado and Kallstrom were proposed by Unai Emery. Romulo was unfortunate to sustain an injury after making a move. Emery had all the information about the
Brazilian midfielder and we decided to sign him. Indeed, it was a mutual effort.”
“In June, when met with Diarra’s representative, he told us that any club that wants to sign his client have to pile up a large amount. We do not want us to be in a similar situation like Zenit so we decided to sign Romulo instead.”
The Intertoto Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Karpin, who replaced Emery at the helm after the later was being sacked by the management following poor league results and the club’s UEFA Champions League elimination, wished the former coach all the best in near future.
