Karrie Webb finishes fourth in Florida
Australian Karrie Webb displayed a superb performance at the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she posted a total score of 278 to finish fourth on the leaderboard.
Webb was more than happy at the end of the four-day LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event as she made a charge in the lineup in the final round. She was standing tied for the 8th position at the end of the third round, but a decent 69 on Sunday did the trick, as it carried her through to a solo fourth position on the leaderboard.
Although the CME Group Titleholders, played at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, featured a ferocious roster, it did not hamper Webb from surging ahead, constantly providing her opportunities for birdies and par score.
The Aussie LPGA titan got off to a bright start, with other Asian and European rivals also battling hard for early gains, but she just kept racking up the points.
Every time her seemingly strong rivals ramped up pressure, Webb responded with the same vigour and shots on the greens.
She posted a 69 each in the first and second round, which helped her gain a solid foothold in the lineup. But she had so much to do before she could finally subdue her nearest rivals.
Webb started the final round with full confidence as she parred the first four holes and launched two back-to-back birdies on the 5th and 6th hole.
On the back nine, she looked a little fazed after carding a bogey on the 10th hole. But she tactfully put herself back on track after draining another two straight birdies on the 13th and 14th hole.
Webb might not have been rated among the hot favourites for the season finale, her huge experience in women’s golf was something to give her an edge over most of her competitors.
Having notched up 38 LPGA titles so far in her years-long professional career, Webb ranks among one of the most successful golfers.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi remained the star performer at the season-ending battle, as she won the title by shooting an overall 274 on the leaderboard. Another contender who stole the show this Sunday was So Yeon Ryu, who finished runner-up after posting a 276.
